Shih Tzu puppy
Shih Tzu Puppy -Just like anything else, the cost varies depending on what region you are in, as well as what breeder you get it from. Whether or not they come papered through the American Kennel Club also affects the price quite a bit.
You should expect to end up paying anywhere between $500 and $1000. Typically they run between that price range but can get up into the thousands a little bit more.
The amount of people in your area breeding Shih Tzu also has an effect on the price you will pay. If more people are breeding this type of dog then the price will be substantially lower than a location where there are few breeders in the area.
It’s supply and demand, just like economics. Breeders that are the only ones in their area breeding this dog, then they can charge more knowing that people will pay more because it is the only thing available to them.

Location of where you are also impacts the cost. For example, Shih Tzu are very popular in the United Kingdom, versus the United States so you can get one a lot cheaper in the United States, than you can in the United Kingdom because there is more of a demand for them there. In the United Kingdom, you can expect to pay upwards of $1000.
Although you can purchase a puppy without AKC papers, it is not recommended. With the AKC papers you know where your puppy came from, it shows a lineage of their family. When you purchase a puppy without the papers, even though it is typically much cheaper, there is no way to guarantee that they are pure bred. When your willing to spend $1000 on a puppy, I would make sure you at least know where it came from, and that it in fact is registered.

Shih Tzu can be expensive not only just buying one, but also buying all the things you need to take care of one properly. When first bringing the puppy home, you will need to purchase a bed, potty pads, water and food dishes, leashes, harnesses and collars, and so on. Don’t forget about the ongoing purchases like vet check ups, and dog food. With a Shih Tzu grooming is going to be an expense as well. They have longer fur that needs to be trimmed, and shaved to your liking and their comfortability.
Overall, when your purchasing your puppy, it is important to keep in mind all the factors in which regard to your dog. If you can afford $1000 for the puppy, but then you can’t seem to afford grooming, or check ups at the vet then this probably is not the breed for you. They do require some maintenance, and it is in the dogs best interest to be with an owner that can afford those things without having to go broke in doing so. You can expect to pay between $500 and $1000 up fronto to get the puppy, but after that there are some expenses that will be repeated throughout their life. They will need to be groomed monthly, and some dogs in this breed are known to have food allergies, so expect to pay a little more money for dog food to feed them.
